The catalogue
The messages that arrive here divide fairly evenly: readers correcting which archangel is which, and people wanting to reuse a cherub in something they are making.
Angel Oil Paintings is run by one editor. Most replies go out within two to three working days; a licensing question that has to be checked against an institution's terms takes longer.
What is worth writing about
A named archangel got the wrong name
Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are distinguished by armour, lily and fish, and a picture missing its attribute gets guessed at. If an entry has guessed wrong, say which and what gives it away.
A rank we have read badly
Whether a six-winged red figure is a seraph and a blue one a cherub is a convention, not a law, and it breaks regionally. Corrections that cite a specific picture are welcome.
A reuse or licensing question
If you want to use an image from this catalogue in a product, a book or a design, ask. The answer depends on where the photograph came from, and the terms page explains why the painting being old is not the end of the question.
What this address cannot do
This address does not answer theological questions about angels, does not identify a painting from a photograph of something in a private house, and does not value or authenticate work. It is an editorial desk for a catalogue.
